Shelfari

To my delightful, if extraordinarily small cadre of readers and friends:

After investing a small bit of time putting a very small portion of my library on this website, I'm already amused by the endless amounts of new reading ideas I get from the other users of the site. I encourage all of you to sign up and start in.

Lovely Alien

I took a vacation to this town a few months back and I had a great time. While I was there I stumbled upon a building that I couldn't identify.

On the west side of the city, there is a beautiful park called "Petrin Hill". Cherry trees going up the hill to an ancient city wall and various tourist destinations.

On the side of the hill, just to the right of the northern path up the hill, there's a small white building, surrounded by a fence with an American flag fluttering at the top. I didn't see any people there and there was no one on guard at the fence.

Does anyone know what this building is? Part of the embassy or something different? I have looked and looked on the internet but I haven't found any other mention of this building.

Anticool

I bought a Zune today. So far I really like the thing. Much better than the old IPod.
I sound like a trendy waste, but in that realization I wondered about something else.

Mac grew in popularity because it wasn't Microsoft. Oh sure there are the arguments for ease of use, powerful editing software etc ad nauseam. But the reason most people buy a Mac (or Apple product) is to be anti-establishment.

Apple is becoming the establishment. The average latte-drinking coffee house denizen couldn't give two whits about BSD architecture or Intel migrations. They just don't want a "PC". The anti-trend is the trend.

Everyone has an IPod. Ultimately, if your IPod makes you happy than everyone else be damned. But will there come a day when Microsoft becomes so malinged that Apple will eventually be labled sell out and Gates becomes underground cool again?
